Star, Just to add that to publish your memoir book, make sure you "tell a story." It should have a beginning (how you were influenced by your family, friends, and lover(s)), a middle (how you tried to deal with it all), and an ending (maybe happy, maybe not, but YOUR ending).

It's great that you're writing down your story. You've endured, and as Wm. Faulkner famously said, you can prevail. Best wishes!

Hi, Star:

Just now seeing your post regarding your memoirs book. Michael Larsen, a San Francisco agent, told me that the important thing about writing a memoir is that it is important that it is more than a "misery memoir."

In other words, detail your journey and the sorrow it caused but also add what you learned on the way so that the reader who has the same problem can learn where to turn for help and how to best help herself.

Hope this helps.

Hi everyone. I am new here. I am a published author and I am almost done with my second book. This is a series of 3, my autobiography of my life. Yes it is very hard to write about the emotional side of our lives. Mine was very abusive, but as I began writing it was strange how I began to feel whole again. Somethings I had never cried about I finally cried. When I finished crying it was as though my feet could move 2 steps forward and not 3 steps back.

This writing group seems like a good idea. So many people want to write for publication, but may have trouble "going down deep" for emotional content. Maybe the group can support members as they use their writing for journalling and healing.
