Saving Cinderella

Dedicated to Helping Women Trapped in Abusive Partnerships

Some of you on this site are already aware that this quarter, will be the live launch of the FINA BELLA DV Program I've been working on for some time. This program will be encompassing many elements within the issue of DV and not just a band aid attempt. Amongst others, it attempts to:

1) convince the abused individual to come forward.

2) to remove the individual (and children) from the abusive home.

3) to provide therapy, education, job security, a place to stay (after the shelter), medical care and life planing to name a few parts of the program.

4) Assistance to the abuser to turn him from an abuser to a non abuser.

5) educational material at the school level in an attempt to identify and stop abuse before it starts or continues

6) have corporations actively behind this program and supporting the victim and enacting a zero tolerance mandate

7) involving external partners (that work in unison) such as police, medical, hospitals, shelters (and half way housing after the fact), legal, women's groups, social workers.... and the list is longer than this.

While I have the complete program mapped out on paper, it is a work in progress and when launched, will continue to grow and be added to. The most important aspects will be put in place to assist those abused and their security while the rest of the program is implemented. The reason for the delay on parts of the program, is because I have identified a number of areas that will take negotiation and convincing to make happen.

I have a growing number of women that want to be involved with me in the project when launched. Some of these women are from the media, some in the medical/legal/ HR, etc professions, and some are women who were abused but survived it and now are helping others in one way or another to become survivors also.

I am a business man, so it goes without saying that I am a realist. Yes, I have carefully put a program together to meet DV head on. Yes, I'm in it for long run. Yes, I have researched to know where the road blocks will be and the plus/minuses of this issue. I can give you a lot of yeses. But being a realist, I know I will encounter "lip service" from the companies, the partners and many others if I try to do this on my own. I am a drop of water in a huge ocean. What I need, are women (and any men who will step up to the line) standing behind this issue/program. I need this so I can stand before the Dragon and say I have a passionate community that will not take no for an answer.

I am not suggesting riots on the streets..... far from that. The issue is violent enough. But I do need voices. Lots of voices. If I may quote Margaret Mead for a moment, 'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, commited people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.' I agree, but it takes a movement to sustain the change.

My question is, would you be willing to add your voice behind this issue???

Regards,

Richard

Richard,

As you know, I'm already a voice behind the issue. Having launched Human Resource Essential, LLC several years ago and doing a very similar initiative already. I'm dealing with the same road blocks every day, but already paving the way. And I believe making it easier for others to come along. I am hoping that the individuals who are willing to add their voice to your endeavors will speak up for mine as well. What's good, I believe, from the business aspect is that we have many areas of cross-over, and some that are not. Collaboration is possible, and I know we will be speaking soon.

I am on a few different social networking sites and don't get to Saving Cinderella often, in fact, the individual emails some of the members send me are more easily responded to than postings on the site. My apologies - and I hope that the folks on this forum don't regard me as inactive. The fact is that I'm so active elsewhere I don't communicate here as often as I should.

Let's talk soon.

Hi Stephanie,

Yes I would like to speak with you on Thursday or Friday. Please advise of your schedule and available time. I will call you once you advise me.

I belive that for this issue to be addressed, it will take women helping women and the colaboration of many to sustain moving forward. It will, in my opinion, have to become (over time) a movement for change. Any of the "trail blazers" like yourself, are invaluable to make this happen.

Looking forward to your reply.

Richard

Stephanie,

I listened to the interview tonight. If I may say. BRAVO. Well done and interesting. As you are aware, I am living east of you so your 2 pm is my 5 pm. As I suspected we have many things in common with respect to our approach/policy to DV.

I was awaiting your return Email to speak with you last week. Please contact me to arrange a scheduled time to speak.

Regards,

Richard

Hi Richard - Yes, I would be willing to add my voice. I am a survivor as well as a public speaker on the education and prevention of DV and my "career" is in HR, so yes, I would love to help. I am also promoting MADE, which is Moms and Dads for Education on dating violence. They have partnered with Liz Claiborne in creating a ciriculum to be taught to kids, educating and preventing DV with kids is so important to me. Their curriculum can be found at http://www.loveisnotabuse.com/teen_curriculum_request.htm if you are interested.

This is great Melody. I am very interested in as many people as possible coming forward and not only adding their voice, but also their experise as well. I will look at any sites or links that are available.

I think that I can say, that this issue is long over due to be put in the history books. Will it be easy.......no. Is it possible........ yes. What will it take........... a dedicated team with focus and the desire to change the world 1 victim at a time.

Thanks,

Richard

Much appreciated Dorothy. More and more women are joining in this issue. I will never say we have enough. Why? Because I want to see a movement. Even in the future, when I am gone, I want this to continue. That's why I want this to become a movement. A movement that will make things happen and that will never look back.

For those unsure about joining this cause. Please give this a thought.

Ah, so true. And how many times have you said to yourself, "I should have, could have.... but didn't". Well now you have a chance to do something and it will make you feel good and you won't be saying "I should have, I could ...... because you did !!!!

Hi Richard, This is so true. So many say I should have and don't. I have tried to change that in my life. Now I just tell myself "DO IT"
